Sun, May. 11th, 2008, 09:11 am ROCK
Near the end of last year, I went to a party that had a dress up theme of ROME. This time around, the theme is ROCK and I'm wondering if you have any ideas? They made a movie clip [ mp4](Rupert is a video producer), that I have yet to see because EVERYTHING IS FREAKING BLOCKED HERE.. or I'm not allowed to load the appropriate software. So any ideas much welcome. Also, you have to remember that there is nothing here like Vinnies or op-shops, so I have to make use of what I got or buy really cheap crap stuff from something like Big W.
Leading up to the party, I realised that I've never really organised a party of my own before, which kinda got me a bit stressed out.. especially with finding the time to go shopping and not having enough food (I made 3 trips!). I'm getting all the messages now of people who "forgot".. but I'm really glad the people who did come came because they're my "real" friends. Hahah. Magnificent effort from Nick & Till who came up from Canberra! (Any excuse to come to Sydney is a good excuse, right?) Photos: Chav Houz WarminThanks to Kit, Nic, Nick & Till who made the fantastic ChavCakes! It turned out pretty civilised (how I explained it to people at work) and turned into an informal dinner with paella and spaghetti! I was kinda embarressed that I stuck up signs at the elevators to warn the neighbours, but maybe it was justified with all the "ready set go" screaming that Isabella was making? It was just nice to sit around and catch up with friends.. thanks to everyone who came and the amazing costumes (or were they? GO DADA SUPREME!). Noteworthy thank you to Tash for being my front gate security guard, paella chef and general hostessing.. Nicass + Kosta for letting me raid their place and borrowing chairs, tables, platters.. and all the cool little gifts I got! Look out for my next party.. probably a moving out party when I get too poor to live there!
This place will be proper warmed up.. if not on fire (not literally) by the end. BYO - preferably casks, long necks and pre-mixed spirits RSVPz by Tuesday May 1
Joel, Russ + Bob at a Geek Party. I watched a YouTube video of Damo (Morgie's brother) and Scott's (my old workmate from London - small world!) '£5 Fashion Fiesta' house party. Dress up parties seem heaps popular these days. Even clubs like Turnmills are doing it. They look fun. Sitting in someones house, talking codshite to people who you'll never see again, let alone remember their name in 15mins (if you had even heard right when you asked "pardon?" the second time). So.. is anyone having a party soon? Halloween is coming up.. hrmz. ( Inspiration )
( Wed/Thurs/Fri Nights = Photos, parties, music, tennis & fever )Today at Marcs went really fast. Really wanted to hit up Annie @ The Basement (new monthly Modular party), but decided I should give it a miss. My sore throat and blocked nose will thank me for it this week during deadlines! Almost forgot that I am house-sitting this week so had to run over to Drummoyne pick up a key and get the low-down. So its HOUSEPARTY @ SKYE + DOUG's PLACE! Thanks to Doug for being super-manly and climbing into the roof to retrieve the smelly dead possum. HAHA! Best story I've heard all week. (surely it would've made LJ with photos, witha_ph?). I also wanted to get in writing/type that I'm going to do the BayRun at least twice this week. Oh yes oh yes. It will be done.
To yous it may concern, Sorry to spring this so close post-FFD, but I've just purchased tickets for The Future Music Festival in March. (Tash & Rich >> I got you guys covered). Any more suggestions whilst I'm being loose with the ccard? Tash has jetted off for her snowboarding tour.. so I need new friends for the next 3 weeks. Anyone interested in This Sounds [Live] on Fri 13th Jan. The suprise international has been announced as Damian Lazarus (omgomg!!1!). Something in it for everyone, IMO ;-D (upon 2nd thought.. i REALLY wanna go to ^^that. I'll give it another thought and most probably buy tix tomorrow) P.s Are people still going to 2manyDJs + James Murphy @ Home?!
FRIDAYOur SI Xmas Party @ Nielsen Park was a crazy cool day out! It started at 10am and beers were already being cracked open. Kerry's food and Alex + Dan's seafood buying was all amazing. Started packing up around 530 (when all 3 cases + 2 sixers of beer, 6 bottles of champagne, 2 bottles of white, 1 bottle of red and 2 bottles of Pimms all ran out!). There was a can-on at the Sheaf. Dropped Joel off so he could see his FW [Future.Wife]. Such a relaxing day and I'd passed out on the sofa by 1030. Photos: SI Christmas Party - Nielsen Park, VaucluseSATURDAYMet Lauren in the morning to shout her breakfast for her birthday at Bills in Surry Hills. Joel was working so we jumped the queue and scored a table outside. Both of us had the scambled eggs with bacon, but I was told I had to make mine different so I added mushrooms. Not bad.. it was a tough audience. Service was impeccable though! Had to go back into the city for work and, like, OMG.. CharlieBrownLady actually initiated conversation and spoke to me! *SHOCK* And she must've been doing a ticket-run when I was because I turned around and almost got poked in the eyes by her boobs (!) and she apologised and called me "darling". She's softening to me now! SUNDAYBack in the city.. this time for a 9am start. Battled it and then trekked over to see everyone at Tash's. My timing is, yet again, flawless as I walked in as the food was being dished up. Absolutely soo-poyerb spread, Tash! Molto bene! I'm sorry for calling your turkey "dry" and then proceeding to tap on its drummy with some tongs. Also thanks to Amelia for the KK present! Photos: Tash's Xmas Dins Video: Santa doing the Running Man ------ SUPERCHEAPAUTO SHOUTOUTS TO: * Chad for passing his uni exams! There was even an HD slipped in there! * Phil Jones who has gotten engaged and will be getting married in 2007! ------ If people were thinking about coming to FBDO @ Moonlight on Thurs (Gold Grass style).. hook yourselves up with tickets because I've got mine! (and Tash's, Morges' and Nicass') Does anyone wanna go check out some rocktronica on Friday?
On Friday arvo, a few of us busted out of work early (on business, of course!) to head into the W Hotel for the UNSW FBE [Faculty of the Built Environment] 2005 Graduates Exhbition. A special industry night, so the boys were definately going for the free bevvys! Bumped into the newly married Rob & Michelle, who kinda snubbed us.. and Annella brought along Matt Stray, who I haven't seen since uni days! I had to head back up to Surry Hills, but todays reports found out that Annella and Nick got kicked out of Pontoon and Mel had a spew and went home. Haha! Nicass + Tash were aleady seated and into the entree when I made it up to Cafe Mint. I'd kinda lost my appetite because we'd had a office pub lunch plus I was feeling a bit sick, but the food was fabulous! Highly recommend. tashrocks should be doing her Good Living-esque write up soon enough. Photos: Grad Exhbition / Nicass' Bday DinsSaturday was another fantastic day out (stupid Murphy and his laws! *shakes fist*). I was out of the house by 830am to get my haircut at my hairdresser's new location in Paddington. Its felt like forever since I've had to catch a bus! Basically, its come to a bit of a conservative bob and is a bit too short up the back for my likings. Headed back into the city for work. Got to hang with Katherine for a couple of hours then I was left all on my own until 7pm. It was so boring. Girls was d-e-d. Boys had an absolutely crazy day from my view over the balcony. I think CharlieBrownLady was so bored that she almost spoke to me! :-0 Oh, Nick + Telitha came by to visit me too! :-D Didn't get home till after 8pm, which was pretty shitty. Hung out and spruced and fixed Tash's hair (dude, next time, we're going proper high). Met Amelia outside Slip Inn.. stopped for a quick chat with Zak (I think he gets really bored DJ'ing upstairs!) and Nick + Telitha walked in! So we all walked down to Laundry. It was a bit bare in the Cave when Nick had to start. A few guys looming in the dark corners in the seats, an old guy who tripped on the entry step, the crazy dancer, the sleazy dancer, the short guy with the big nose and a guy who was comfy with his jug of beer and asked for Nick's number! ;-0 Sausage fest anyone? There was no shortage of "characters" though! It started to fill up around midnight, but Paul said it was because he had to shut the Garden so people would move into the rooms. Apart from one slightly dodgy mix, I think Milky did well! Maybe he'll report later. I met the DJK! And then I think Milly pulled her "I'm just going to the toilet" trick. Hahah! It was a relatively quiet night.. and we were out by 2am. Not being able to stop by Cargo to say a quick happy birthday to Dave. I dont think they would've let me in with Jordans on anyways. Damn. Photos: Laundry ft. Milkbar NickI forgot to mention that I woke up on Saturday morning with no voice. It was pretty horrible. I went from croaky to husky.. and when Matthew saw me at Marcs, he said I sounded like Carlotta. My voice was way worse on Sunday. I was teste-popping all over the place and all the Myer boys were making fun of me. Even Adam from DJs! Chad came in to tell me I sounded like a man. Bastids. Nick + Telitha dropped by again with all their shopping and more stories. Too funny. Gave myself an early mark and headed over for Skye + Doug's Xmas BBQ. Way oarsome spread.. biggest cheers going to aforementioned baking skeelz. Next time you make some, I'm heading over with a tub of double thickened cream. Tash, Morges, Teesh, Doug, Skooge, Heidi, Carol and TimPhotos: Xmas BBQ
Murphy's Law #8615 Its always an awesome day outside when a girls gotta work.------ ( A crazy weekend of ridiculously good music )Photos from Renaissance Summer Ball & The GardenMy camera is still defunct :o( The Garden ones are a bit fuzzy because I was a bit woozy and suffering the hangover shakes! So thus completes the month of the International DJ Multi-fecta. Tack on Tiga in there somewhere------ My twin-cuzzy Kenson called me this afternoon.. to inform me that he got engaged! It happened on Saturday outside the Opera House.. thanks for telling me today -> MONDAY :oP "I'm getting old.. it'll be you next.."WTF! He can't do this! Now, if Jeremy gets in, it'll be red rover for me! Congrats to Kenny & Claire!
Finally got to catch up with Dayna last night fo real. I stayed at work till about 7 (seems the usual these days :o\) and headed into Slip Inn. She gets a 50% discount! Ended up meeting a friend-of-a-friend type thing, Sophie, who was fresh off the boat from UK. Actually, she had been living in 'beefa (Ibiza) for 9yrs and flew in via. Thailand where she did this really hectic detox program which involved clay drinks and twice-daily colonics! They talked a lot of shop, name dropping and stuff.. y'know, like Jo (Mills) and Damien (Lazarus). We headed out to the Captain Cook for some steak, but it was packed! With lots of post-training rugby boys - reOw! Plus because Wednesday is also pasta day, they don't serve the other veg/mash side options. Rorted! Dayna wasn't feeling the vibe so we went back to Forresters. Ok, so the vibe there is a bit more "hip", but the steak was heaps gristly (even for my low standards!), the mash was really sticky and there was no side-veg option! But hey, it was 5 bux. I was pretty ready to leave after that, but then got lured down to Pier26 to meet Dayna's pseudo-boyf, Troy. Part of the conversation drifted into classifying a "date". It got pretty complicated! Anyways, moral of the story is that.. I should be trekking into Slip Inn for The Garden on Sunday after Marcs with the crazy ladies if I'm: a) still standing b) standing with my eyes open c) feeling sociable for a 2nd round of Desyn Masiello + Nic Fanciulli if any of yez feel like you can kick on for a lazy arvo/evening.
This looks the goods: Sunday December 18
Modular / Tsubi Xmas
Bondi Pavillion, Sydney
with Wolfmother, Cut Copy, The Presets, Bumblebeez, Modular DJ's, Bang Gang DJ'sMBN > Keen to stay on after your Laundry debut? ;o)
Pretty much stayed on the main floor most of the night. Kind of a shame as I hear the Silver Room and Grant Smilie nailed it. But there was also kudos going up to the Terrace where it was Bang Gang vs Electric Disco all night (and well into the morning!). Its just that every time I passed through there, they were playing the same old stale tunes. The crowd throughout the night was a bit of a turn-off too. Talk about rif-raf. Lots of young people, chunky boys, really awful 80s-esque attire and possibly the highest ratio count of the shorts/stilletto combo in Sydney that night. Ajax did well as a warmup. It was kinda a classics set (but not too heaumaux). He played goodies like No More Conversations, Maxim's I dont Care, Ladies Want It mashed in with Geht's Noch, Technologic, Pump up the Jam, Hot In Herre.. and it appears that his Shakedown - At Night sample has been replaced by the "Disco! Disco!" of Skitzo Dancer. But how mental was it when he played that Banquet remix! I missed the opening to Tiga but I found his set a little more commercial to what I'd heard in London. He was still banging from the get-go and it was techy and thumpy! I spotted Muscle Car (i think DJ T mix), Robot Rock, NY Excuse and DFA's Dare. He was quite self-indulgent and played all his big tunes, a couple of remixes and encored with Washing Up. A selection of photos.
So even after the second round of annoucements for BDO, I'd probably only really want to see: Soulwax 2 Many DJs The Living End (to bask in my punk memories) Wolfmother Gerling The Go! Team Mylo (if there was nothing else at the time) DJ James Murphy Cut Copy Hilltop Hoods Sonicanimation Common M.I.A. (yeah!) The Presets MU (Hells yeah!) I'm still unconvinced. I'm hoping there'll be a Soulwax/2ManyDJs club gig. A Modular-type Wolfmother/Go! Team/Cut Copy/Presets Metro gig. Common @ somewhere like The Basement and other sideshows for MIA & MU.
Bahamadia Cuban Bros Datarock DJ Marky featuring Mc Stamina Dusted London Estelle James Brown Lady Kier (Dee-Lite) Malente Nextmen Norman Jay Switch Talib Kweli Z Trip Sneaky Sound System Mark Dynamix Groove Terminator Katalyst John Course ** Word on the street is that there'll be another 3 big announcements made soon. Stay tuned!
My brother brought over his media card reader on the weekend so I was able to access my photos! Yay! Sweetchilli presents: Digweed @ Home [29.10.05] I think it was, like, paparazzi-karma that my camera decided to jump out of my hands and injure itself after I tried to take a bogan photo of Robbie Y.
After a lovely meal of vietnamese rice paper rolls and rare beef pho in Flemmington with tashrocks and morges (I am still suffering from intense MSG-mouth!), I was on my way home and noticed that Nicass' car was parked outside Bob & Yolla's house, so I went in to say hi. Baby girl has grown so much! She has 2 bottom-front teeth that are starting to pop out and apparently she had just started crawling on her knees that day. Last I saw she was just a worm wriggling on the floor. She can now get on her knees but her arms are still on her forearms so she's army-crawling with her elbows. I noticed she was trying to get on her hands though.. not long! She is also laughing and giggling.. and can scream her head off. Manic! ------ Roll-call update: Morges join us for Tiga & Ajax @Home! Desyn Masiello is playing for Sweetchilli @ Candy's Apartment at the end of November. O0o0oer.. he's so dreamy! *swoon*Have also just purchased tickets (me, Tash & Morges) for Renaissance Summer Ball. Bring on the prog revival! No pressure for anyone else to follow suit and get in on the good times. ------ Photos (I took with the office camera) from the Site Image/Total Landscape Care Melbourne Cup Luncheon @ The Alexandria Hotel Joel the Punter
Sun, Aug. 21st, 2005, 10:10 pm A Busy Weekend!
Friday afternoon kicked off great! At 459pm, Ross walks out of the office and announces the start of the Ping Pong Tournament! So we all grab our beers and walk out to the back shed. It was first to 11 and I played doubles with Mel and we were 'The Come-Backs'. The score would be 10-0 and we'd rally it back up. I took a photo with the office camera of 'The cutting of the ribbon' which I'll have to steal back. Picked up chadder from Ersko Station and made him wait around my house for me to get ready. We got back into the city a little early so we stopped off at Bungalow8 for a bevvy. Hello suits! There wasn't much seatage so we ended up squeezing into a booth with some people. They ended up introducing themselves - Emma the senior business manager for Wrigley's, John the fashion editor for FHM and Kristy the wine maker. They'd been there since lunch time (we got there at 7pm) and were quite boozy..but they let us eat their cheese platter! I walked away just saying "Wow, that was great fun!" That 20mins just restored my faith in meeting friendly randoms! We walked down to I-Thai where mvuaran_esq was having his farewell dinner before he heads off to Amsterdam on Tuesday! (Hehee, I made him an LJ for his present!) Sadly, the dinner was kinda average, but the company was cool and met some of Mark's friends.. plus his elusive brother, Adam in Japan, who I've been hearing about for ages! They all kicked onto SoHo, whereas I couldn't be arsed. Went into work on Saturday and was running in between both floors. It seems that Cate is now back with her boyfriend.. even though the rugby player is one of Cleo's 50 top bachelors! :-0 Zoomed home to get ready. I was on a schedule and I was pretty glad I stuck to it! (Close enough anyways.. that stop at Tash's to eat the pasta was a minor set-back). We picked up Doug and then next stop was Annella's birthday drinks at The Exchange in Balmain. They were all soo drunk (as they'd been there since 5pm) but it was good to see her and Mel had brought Rosy along too. Although we didn't get to chat much as we only stayed for about 45mins (tight schedule!) before moving onto Laundry. My rockstar parking is almost back again. It took me 2 laps of the block and an illegal U-turn over double lines. Saw Jeff and wondered if he slept in that Paris shirt too: And then saw Mikah: Saw Hau, but only briefly. Canb-ShowPony was there giving me evil eyes! And Luke too ( osmocote's old housemate)! We were most upset to hear that Ajax had pulled out, but replaced by Jamie Doom + Gus Da Hoodrat. It was good, but wasn't really feeling it. So as soon as Sneaky Sound System came on, we moved down to the SchoolDisco room to see 2 SQwa. They had the room going nuts! I met Pato and he really does have a talent of getting chicks to get their cans out :-\ We later got to move back upstairs to the SandBar to see Jeff + Mikah play the last hour of electro bizniss. Ending on Robophobia so Lita could do her shoulder dance :-D Rocked home at about 5am just in time to see Eug walk out the door to fly to Vietnam for a buisness trip. I think I freaked his friend out a bit too! Heehee! Photos from Saturday NightPato's Laundry pics on RAWoke up at 10am and felt refreshed! So I drove down to Oatley to do a site visit for the job that I won. The bastids weren't even home! So I took some snaps of the front yard and drove back home. Relaxing drives + sunshine = happy days! Stopped of at the shops to buy some vietnamese pork rolls. They didnt have any of the long rolls left so she gave me that last 2 round rolls. And then I felt bad when this guy came in and wanted a chicken roll (I apologised!). He was desperate enough to ask them to use one of yesterdays rolls that was sitting there. Hahah! I was going to set up my free-standing hammock in the backyard but ended up sitting in the living room, watching some doco show on weird animals and reading the sunday paper. Did you know that baby Koalas eat their mother's poo straight from the hole? Ended up taking a nap and woke up at 830pm. I finished off making Glenda's banoffee. Ate it. And now I've got a stomach ache! Hopefully the Horlicks will put me back to sleep.
Thought it was my turn for the photochopIts also secret linque!
My lovely friend, Chad, has a friend who will be hosting a party down at the lah-di-dah Establishment Bar on Sat. July 16th and is in need of a dee-jay. Looking at a 730ish start and go till about midnight. There will be cashmoneys. Looking at house/electro/lounge/dance type musics. Nothing too hectic like badass breaks/dnb. So I know most of yous are in Canb.. but anyone looking for a weekend away? Al.. will you be in Syd? Otherwise do you think Bec P might be interested?
