Rain Rain Go Away

Just as London isnt built for the heat.. Dubai isnt built for the rain. As I checked out the kerbs on my way into work, I noticed that some of the roads dont even have a kerb, the roads dont gutters nor do they have drainage outlets.

Its been raining on and off for the past 4 days now, with the heaviest down pour waking me up this morning. Most of the streets are flooded (especially the residential roads leading away from the villa).. I have discovered a new fear I have of massive puddles on the road. I imagine the car driving into it, then suddenly falling into a deep hole. Its from a movie or tv show.. can't remember where. All the other drivers are freaking out, with everyone driving slower, increased usage of hazard lights and generally taking longer to get anywhere.

What shat me this morning was when I was driving away from the villa and following a 4WD.. the stoopid thing decides to slow down to almost a stop to go through the flooded bits. Umm, you're in a 4WD and I assumed you'd go through at relatively breakneck speed so I could drive behind you and not fear my engine would flood. The same morons go over speed humps and the same speed.

I actually dont mind the rain.. its a welcome change. I still miss the seasons though.

With the Islamic New Year long weekend just gone.. and then the suprising Pres. Bush holiday, I realise that I have never seen so many movies in this space of time. The closest was probably when Alison and I used to skip Tuesday lectures one term and went to Belco Mall for tight-arse Tuesday movies. I've watched:

I Know Who Killed Me
The Ex
Ratatoille
American Gangster
You, Me & Dupree
The Kingdom (not really, slept through most of it)
Waitress
The Weatherman
The Lakehouse<

9 movies in 5 days. The first 5 were watched within 20hrs.

I was just flicking through the office music server and found this:
Top 100 Dance Tracks 1990-1999 )

It really sucks that I forgot my headphones today.

Movies Shoes Movies

With the release of these new photos of the 'Spiz'ike' Spike Lee Jordans (its even got the little badge at the back with the Brooklyn cap!).. It reminded me that I bought a DVD the other week from Borders when I bought my book:

I think Jemist would be proud. Especially with my previous mention.
I saw it and thought I'd check if JB Hi-Fi stocked it to where I was told "thats not for sale in Australia". Ha ha. Suckers.
I haven't watched it yet.. Thats what weekends are for!

P.s How good is September 7th going to be.. as they are giving Sydney (metro area) a public holiday because of the APEC summit. Yeeeeeewwww!

One more weekend.. one more weekend with you

Friday
Went to the movies with Nicass and Kosta... and Mike, Becky + Matt (and one of his friends), Mel and Danni, Uncle Tony + Aunty Liz (and one of their friends), Paul.. almost the whole family! We packed into Regency Lounge at Rhodes and watched X-men 3. Not bad.. not as good as the others, but I'm happy they brought back Beast, even if it seemed like a small role. I even got a bit teary.. at least twice.

Saturday
Work. It was boring. But thanks to 'Styled By Sue(bi)' again!
[info]tashrocks & I went over to Hermann's (@ Usyd) armed with our free tickets from [info]caztothextreme.. ahem, i mean, we won them.. for this big party thing where Tash's sister, Tammy, was one of the organisers. House moozak inside, old school/party breaks-dnb on the outside. Simple enough. There was also one of those mechanical bull things too. We saw Crazy Dave, not crazy at all but suprisingly coherent. There was also a girl who was doing amazing things with a hula hoop. I have been inspired to head out and buy one because it was obvious that hula-girls get the boys.

Headed into the city to The Basement for the Modular party featuring CHROMEO! Been wanting to see these guys for aages but when I asked Dayna about it before and she said couldnt bring them because they were too "out there" :o( The toilet queue was 15mins long. The warmup music was hilarious, with the guy busting out some retro like Jackson 5 'One More Chance' and Warren G 'Regulators' - haha! Chromeo was amazing! So much like their album, but cooler, because it was live.

Chromeo @ The Basement
Excuse the chavvy cap.. and that balding afro. Happy theres no photos of ugly swaying emo man

I'm kinda in love with Dave1.. was it something about his coke-bottle-esque glasses, leather jacket and the fact that he looked totally mean rocking away on his see-thru axe?

Most people cleared out after the main act.. and I didnt really feel like sticking around to catch the Chromeo DJ set as it was in the other room and it was a bit squishy.

Sunday
A day-off! It almost wasnt as Sue was calling me at 1030 saying that Morag had called in sick. It was tempting but I'm taking these days off as often as I can!

I went with my mum + dad to see my Shepherd's Bay apartment.

Apartment
There it is on the ground floor.. look at those ugly plants

We couldnt get let in because the dudes didnt have the key so I could only see through the dusty window. They will start the interiors soon, which would probably mean I wouldn't be allowed in until the place is actually handed over.

Later in the afternoon, I trekked up to Crows Nest (cryptic post to follow for those in the know)

Weekends are good.

My Date with Dayna..

(she reckons we need to stop going on our "dates" so we can focus more on boys.. haha!)

So I picked her up after work and we drove down the road towards ChinaTown. Had some dinner at our little dumpling house. She ordered the spicy soup dumplings, as per, and I decided to try the beef and handmade noodles. We sat down and sipped some tea, watched some MTV and then our food buzzers went off. Her mum called just as we finished so we decided to go walk and I bought some yummy custard and chocolate pancake-souffle things from Hontou. We walked up George St. and stopped at some of the shops before making our way into the cinemas and buying out tickets for:

I'm rich, biatch!

(upon entering the room we saw Azzo, Hau + Zac being backseat bandits)
The cinema was packed and Dayna had these 2 random azn chicks who ended up leaving about 1/2hr in (??) and I had a random girl on my side and we quitely rocked out during some of the performances. Its basically a doco about Chapelle setting up a 'Block Party' in Brooklyn where he invites all these randoms from his hometown in Ohio and has all his "friends" perform. Celebration of black pride, community etc etc. I wouldn't say it was meant to be a comedy, but Dave Chapelle is a funny funny man. The scenes with him + Mos Def telling jokes in the old school Rat Pack style was the best! And Lauryn Hill singing 'Killing Me Softly'. *a tear*. Definately recommend for people who are fans of Chapelle and/or hiphop.

The Perfect Catch

So the cinematic experience with my mum was not as terrible as I thought it'd be (although I generally think the worst of everything by nature). It was a screening of the new Drew Barrymore movie - The Perfect Catch and it was such a cute film! Tugs at the old heartstring and even some wet eyes. Maybe I'm just getting soft. Definately one for a girlies!

It brought up something that I was discussing with Lauren at dinner last night, which was about the type of person you seek for a partner. I brought it back to some movie or tv show (because its so spot on to real life), in this case was Seinfeld where Jerry dates a woman who is exactly like himself.. and it doesn't end up working out because she annoyed him.

I googled this philosophical critique about it and found the first couple of paragraphs interesting.. but then couldn't be bothered reading any more.

Anyhoo..
Lauren used to think that thats what she was looking for. Someone like her. Same interests, same thoughts, same beliefs.. same same same. But going by what I've been hearing about Geoff.. he's so opposite to her! He likes cricket and he won't wear a pink shirt. Hahah! Its funny because it pains her. She's now a turn-around firm believer of what Paula Abdul was singing about.

I do notice that I sway to those that are very similar to myself. Even down to the way I dress. :o| Is it really that hard to find (/insert long wish list)... Maybe its time to change tact. Hehee!

Oh! And I almost forgot the little food analogy that Faleepah, Terrance + I were talking about on the weekend, RE. the savouring of a slave-worthy cooked meal VS. the fast food. I'm not quite sure how it fits in, but I just wanted to note it down for future reference.

Meanwhile.. getting back to Lauren, I just remembered when she said "I don't know if I'm laughing because I've realised you're just beyond cool.. or if you're a complete dork"
This was in response to me saying that I wanted to get totem tennis. We could have championship games like this. C'maawwwn!
